A Brief History of Vaulting
Vaulting is the sport of gymnastics on the back of a moving horse. Although is it a relatively unknown sport in the US, it is quite popular in Europe and is one of the oldest sports in the world. The origins of vaulting can be traced to ancient times when warriors had to train to fight from horse back. The team competition, shown to the right, stems from the necessity of men having to scale walls during battle and would stand on each others' shoulders on the back of their moving horse.
Today vaulting has become an equestrian sport - one of the 7 equestrian disciplines shown at the World Equestrian Games every 4 years.
